Cup Final at Launceston
STOKE CLIMSLAND AGAIN WIN
The final of the Launceston Knock-out Cup has again been played off and once more the trophy- a new cup given by Canon Lewis- will be held for a year by Stoke Climsland, a team which seems to make a name in that competition.
On this occasion, yesterday (Thursday evening) a team from Launceston- Newport Villa- which consists mainly of "lightweights" were their opponents and Stoke Climsland, who the advantage of experience and weight, won by the handsome margin of 3 goals to 1- a well-earned and deserving victory.
The result was a fair reflection of the encounter, but had Underwood (Stoke Climsland's centre forward's) drives been a few inches lower- no less than four times he slammed the ball just over the bar, with Northcott beaten to a standstill- the result might have been different.

But although they were beaten as regards weight and experience, Newport did their fair share of attacking and at times, which were very few, exhibited some nice movements. Newport were severely handicapped by not having two good extreme wing men and this is in no small measure contributed to their defeat. Mills (the left winger) was off colour.
The right winger made fewer blunders, but yet he did not create a favourable impression. Without the all-important support from these mem, the inside forwards were overworked, but they still fought hard and gamely to the last.
Mitchell and Weight were triers and the footwork of the former was very neat, whilst the latter showed fine dash and speed and had hard luck on many occasions. The wing halves were rather shaky at the commencement of the game but Wheeler (centre half) was undoubtedly the best man on the field. His feeding of the forwards, his tackling, dribbling and defensive work was a treat to watch and he deserved the goal scored by him for Newport.
In defence Key was the better of the backs, but Northcott (goalie) gave a very fine exhibition In the Stoke Climsland side every man played well and was always in the right place at the right moment. Their clever marksman (Heath), was below his usual form, but in Underhill they had a dashing and clever leader. In the first five minutes of the game this player was given a golden opportunity to open Stoke's account, but from a centre by the right wing and with only Northcott to beat, he crashed the ball against the underpart of the cross-bar, and it returned into play. During the first ten minutes or so, Newport, were overpowered and it was during this spell that Northcott gave good account of himself. And although overplayed, Newport were the first to score. A free was given for handling and Wheeler, from quite 30 yards' range, scored with a beautiful drive.
Following further hammering at the home goal, and during which the custodian made some heroic saves, the leather went to Stoke's right wing, who brought the scores level with an excellent shot. This score remained up to the interval, up to which time both teams did their share of attacking both the respective defences predominated.

There were bright periods of good combination, but chiefly it was quick and keen tackling and hard kicking.
The opening stages of the second half were fought out practically on the same lines as the conclusion of the first, but on one occasion, Roseveare, whose play had consistently improved, nipped Underhill in the bud as he was rushing through. Although slightly injured when bowled over, when the ball returned to him a second or two later, he could do nothing better but to slam it over the bar.
The combined efforts of Newport brought them no reward in this half. Wheeler continued to play a fine game and broke up several of Stoke Climsland's methodical movements, whilst Mitchell and Weight could not pierce their defence, amongst which the left back displayed a fine game.
His hefty long passes often placed his forwards in an attacking position scarcely before the home halves could recover. Underhill was always a terror and it was chiefly through him that Stoke Climsland took the lead. Shooting from the right wing, Northcott let the ball slip from his grasp and Heath, who was following up, quickly netted. The final goal fell to the credit of Underhill, who scored with a good shot. Following the match, the Mayor Launceston (Mr Horace Kittow), presented the cup and medals, in the absence of Canon Lewis, and congratulated both teams on their sporting display. There was a good gate and Launceston Band under Bandmaster Worden rendered selections, whilst members of St John Ambulance were on duty.
