ST DOMINIC THE WINNERS

Chilsworthy's Game Struggle

In the final of the Launceston and District Knock-out Cup, which was held at Launceston on Tuesday evening, two old rivals -St Dominic and Chilsworthy- struggled for the honours. After a very close and thrilling game St Dominic became the cup winners, defeating their plucky opponents by two goals to one.

Although the "saints" were the victors, the greatest display was given by the Chilsworthy defence who, for the major portion of the second half, played stubbornly and solidly against a methodical and clever attack. Both teams are to be commended on the way in which they overcame the conditions, the rain having made the ground very slippery. Despite this disadvantage however they displayed good football, fast and ended in the first half with the "Saints" revealing the better method in attack.
Chilsworthy opened the scoring through Pridham whose fine shot went in via the upright.

This was about into the game and the play continued veering from end to end. Ten minutes later the lead nullified, Wearing banging in the equaliser. Half- time arrived with no further scoring. The second half witnessed the "Saints" having by far the better of the argument and they attacked repeatedly but the Chilsworthy defence remained firm and it seemed that extra-time would have to be played. About ten minutes from the end, however, a St Dominic attack on the right caught the defence unprepared and Alford put his side ahead. Despite frantic efforts by Chilsworthy this proved to be the winning goal.

The cup was presented to Luscombe the St Dominic captain by Mr Edwin Baker of Launceston, president of the competition and a member of the C.C.F.A every player of both teams receiving a miniature cup.

As in previous years Mr P.R. Saunders was in charge of the game and deserved the compliments paid to him by Mr Baker, and the teams were:-
