In 1952 Lifton succeeded in becoming the first team from Devon to win the 'present day' Launceston Cup (1927-28 onwards), taking the Cup out of Cornwall for the first time. Apparently the team were met at Polson Bridge (just east of Launceston) by the Lifton village band and they escorted the team and the cup back triumphantly into Lifton and Devon after defeating Pensilva 3-2 in the Final
