LAUNCESTON CUP RETURNS TO CORNWALL
After a stay of two years in Lifton, Devon, the Launceston Knock-out Cup has returned to Cornwall to stay for at least twelve months at Pensilva. This match at Launceston, Tuesday, was a game of records for had Lifton won, they would have become the first club to have won the cup three times in succession. On the other hand this was Pensilvas sixth successive appearance in the final, the first time they had won the trophy.
They deserved their success by reason of their second half display, when they scored four times without reply from Lifton. The Devonians had fully merited their first half lead of 2-1 and had it not been for a sound defensive display from J.S.Skews at centre half for Pensilva, Liftons lead might have been greater, writes "Claret". Lifton were compelled to take the field without two of their leading players Frank Dyer and Gerald Parsons-both on the injured list.
In the second half the Pensilva forwards who had not been functioning very well in the first half, swung into top gear and the Lifton defence could not withstand the onslaught. Scorers for Pensilva were P.Skews, S.Skews(2), R.Thomas and G.Hill, while Webb and P.Bailey replied for Lifton.
The Cup was presented to S.Skews the Pensilva captain by Alderman R.L. Hicks (president of the Launceston League) who complimented both teams and congratulated the referee (Mr Sanderson of Liskeard). Each player received a memento and the referee also received a medal.
