WALKHAM WIN THE KNOCK-OUT CUP AT LAUNCESTON

Calstock beaten by goal scored in last few minutes

Competing in the Knock-Out cup competition for the first time in their history, Walkham, also finalists in the Devon Junior Cup, beat the holders Calstock, for the trophy by a goal scored in the last few minutes.
This match was keenly and sportingly played, but both teams missed chances in front of goal that should have been taken.
In the first half Talbot, Calstock left winger, produced a good turn of seed and tested Fitzsimmons, Walkham goal-keeper, with a shot straight for goal.
The goalkeeper also tipped several long range efforts over the bar. However, the shooting was often wild. In the second half Walkham claimed the bulk of the play, but Calstock by close defensive play in the goalmouth kept their goal intact until the last few minutes when Hunt scored for Walkham. Calstock goalie Haddy was kept busy in this half, while Walkham defence kept Calstock forwards at bay when they happened to break away.
A large crowd watched the match and at the end saw Mr Walter Dennis present the cup to the captain of the winning team.
Launceston Municipal Band rendered selections before the start of the match.
