STOKE CLIMSLAND WIN LAUNCESTON AND DISTRICT K.O CUP
When centre-forward White scored for Stoke Climsland shortly after the opening of the second half of the Launceston and District K.O Cup their one-goal lead over Lamerton, which they maintained to the end, was well deserved.
For after the restart it was only the Lamerton goalkeeper and the back division that had saved on repeated occasions shots from the Stoke Climsland forwards. But on the whole the game was an evenly fought out struggle with neither side dominating the play for any great length of time.
Mr R. L. Hicks (President of the Launceston and District League) presented the cup to Stoke Climsland captain (Mr D.Furse). He said that it was 30 years ago that Stoke won the trophy for the first time. That achievement they had repeated on several occasions since.
He congratulated Lamerton, the losers, on their sportsmanship and welcomed them into the league, which was fostering football in the outlying districts. There was a danger of such competitions disappearing. He hoped that day was a long way off. They had been privileged in having 14 teams entering. Mr Hicks was introduced by Mr Hedley Harvey (chairman of the league)
