1984 LAUNCESTON K.O CUP Final

Stratton 1-0 Altarnun

Paul Cook

TWO CUPS FOR STRATTON

Stratton won the Launceston and District Knockout Cup for the first time ever largely due to a fine display by a defence re-arranged because of injury to skipper Ken Bickle.
The first half hour was fairly even with Stratton taking the lead from a long kick by keeper Nigel Dennis which Mike Taylor ran on to and crossed for Paul Cook to crash in.
For the rest of the match Altarnun had more of the play but the Stratton midfield battled on, Meadows covering a lot of ground and at the back Hopgood and Wickett tackled like tigers and the re-shuffled centre backs Woodley and Harvey hardly put a foot wrong.
Although Altarnun made numerous chances their finishing was not as good as their build-ups and when they did penetrate the defence Dennis again came up trumps with a couple of outstanding saves.
