Penalty miss proves costly

After a hectic programme of league and cup matches recently, Stratton just failed in their attempt to retain the Launceston and District K.O Cup last Friday night on Launceston's ground at Pennygillam.

Stratton had played well in the first half and were unlucky not to take the lead when Phil Wickett's shot looked a goal all the way but it was punched clear by a defender. Top scorer Mike Taylor took the resultant penalty kick, but placed the ball wide of the upright.
Before half time, however Stratton took the lead when Dave Meadows did well to meet Nick Heywood's corner kick and head firmly into the net. The second half was a different story as St Kew came storming forward and they deservedly got an equaliser on the hour.

Still keeping the pressure on Stratton, who looked to be tiring, the Saints went all out for the winner and despite some good work by 'keeper Nigel Dennis he was finally beaten 15 minutes from time.
It was a brave bid by Stratton, but in the end St Kew deserved to win the cup.
