Dobwalls beat local rivals Menheniot in close fought Launceston Cup final

This local derby produced a scrappy game that never really flowed. The Division One side battled hard all evening to try and combat the superior skills of their Premier league opponents and succeeded with their aggressive commitment and long ball tactics.
But whilst not up to their usual standard Dobwalls still looked dangerous on the break and created several half chances throughout the game but were thwarted by resolute defending.
Dobwalls took the lead after seven minutes when Simon Fisher's header found his strike partner Stewart Dunn who outpaced two defenders to volley home from the edge of the box.
The second half was more lively with the commitment from both sides increasing and tempers threatened to boil over but referee Phil Volz handled the situation superbly to defuse any problems.
On the hour Simon Fisher lobbed the advancing 'keeper only to see his effort hit the underside of the bar. Fisher was again the provider for Dobwalls' second when he headed Glen Toms' corner back across the goal for Tom Webb to tap in.
With time running out Menheniot had the chance to reduce the arrears when they were awarded a penalty but Wilkinson hit the post from the spot kick. They did score five minutes from time with a well taken goal which livened up the final moments.
Karl Roberts in the Dobwalls goal was awarded the man of the match vote for a good all round display making a number of good saves. The game proved yet again that a cup final with two sides from different divisions cannot be taken for granted as anything can happen on the day. Menheniot are to be congratulated on a committed display
